Understanding Smoking group of Young People
I. Introduction

Recently, the numbers of smokers have grown fast, especially among young people in our society. Smoking makes many bad consequences for a body. It affects people’s organs’ health a lot. People will have many uncomfortable symptoms such as high blood pressure, respiration problems, and emotional problems. Seal said” (1998). Cigarettes will make concern for human’s body. Smoking is a harmful thing for society and young people, because young people comprise an important group in society. For young people’s responsibility, they must contribute positive things for society with a healthy body. First, their healthy body can create economic growth. Smokers comprise a large percentage of the population. Therefore, they play or have an important role in society’s economy. Next, their healthy body connects with their life and society’s resources. They should a have healthy body to create their new life. A healthy body can supply energy for them. So, they can make their life become better without society’s help. Finally, they should use their healthy body to contribute to society. Young people are a big group that leads society into success. Therefore, they need to have a healthy body to help them.

II. Purpose

We wanted to know which gender has the higher proportion, why young people tend to smoke, and non-smokers’ opinion about smokers. We decided to survey the CESL students in Carbondale, Southern Illnols because there are many international students there. We wanted to get different views of smokers who want to quit in different countries and find out why smokers tend to smoke and which ways smokers want to quit.

III. Hypothesis

In my view, the rate of female smokers would be lower than male smokers because females care more about health than males. Smokers would say they started to smoke because of their environments and non-smokers also would have the same thinking.

IV. Materials

We surveyed young people with several questions. Through the survey, we discussed smoking with them and got new information about smoking. We collected these materials to make exact data. We had forty- three surveys, including twenty- two males and twenty- one females

V. Methods

We went outside to get smokers and chose people who we did not know. We wanted to understand most international students’ thinking about smoking behavior through the survey. We wished to get some general ideas of smokers and nonsmokers about quitting smoking. These clues would help us know how to treat smokers. In the survey process, these people enjoyed to answering our questions and gave us different views of how they thought of smoking.

VI. Data

See appendix A

VII. Result

Male smokers number was more than females. We have fifteen male smokers(71%) but only four female smokers(18%). Both smokers and nonsmokers had the same ides; they thought environments make people start smoking, such as friends smoking and family member smoking. Smokers want to have a program of training to help them quit smoking and most of them(62.5%) said they were not addicted.

VIII. Discussion and Conclusion

In conclusion, Our hypothesis was correct. Smokers tend to smoke because their environments affect them a lot. It is a worthy survey because it shows that most of smokers are not addicted and they want to quit smoking. We will try to understand what kinds of program of training they want to have at next time.

Parents Should be Involved in Children’s Homework

Many children have problems in their lessons, but parents do not help them. This is a common problem in some families now. Parents should focus on the issue to solve these problems. If parents can be involved in children’s homework, children can do well in their study and parents will have a good relationship with their children. Parents should understand the advantages of helping children with their lessons. They should know that there are many ways to help children in homework. They can choose some of these good ways to help children.
Parents should have an active relationship with children and will have many advantages if parents care about children’s homework. Parents will enjoy children’s process of growing up when parents participate in children’s homework. Parents should know how to superintend their children and give attention to children, because they talk to each other though homework every day. It will be easy for parents to understand children as their close friends if they have regular conversations through homework.

First, parents should participate in children’s study process. It can help parents be close with their kids and understand each other if parents are involved in children’s homework ( Strauss, 2009). If parents participate in children’s process of growing up, they will have an unforgettable memories. It is a good experience for parents.

Secondly, children’s homework should be done with parents. President Obama said, “ Teachers, no matter how dedicated or effective, cannot make sure your children leave for school on time and do their homework when they get back at night. These are things only a parent can do. These are things that our parents must do” ( Holland, n.d., para. 4). Parents should know what things that children learn in school and help them. When parents know everything about their children, they will know how to superintend their children and give attention.

However, many parents do not know these advantages of helping children’s homework. They think that homework is children’s business and they can do it on their own way, but it is wrong thinking. Parents should make regular conversations with their children through homework. It will be easy to understand children as their close friends if they have done this.

In conclusion, parents should pay attention to children’s homework. They can understand children’s everything through their homework. Children need to have parents help in their process of growing up. Parents and children should work as a team in their family.

Stress becomes power

In the article, ’’ Coping With Stress’’ , the author says that stress sometimes gives people power, if they know how to change their thinking or manage stress. First, people have the ability to control stress by themselves. According to Weiss’s experiment, passive animals more easily get ulceration than active animals. Therefore, people should avoid getting illness by creating their ability to control stress. Second, people will reduce stress if they can predict bad things. People will not get hurt easily, if they know what will happen in the future. Third, people should accept bad things that are unpredictable. People should know that they can not control everything so unpredictable things are parts of our life. Finally, people can become energy by getting out of stress in daily life, if they know how to cope with stress.

People can deal with stress by three easy steps. They need to exercise frequently in daily life. They should develop the power to identify stress. They should accept stress happening.

First, people need to exercise every day. People can lower stress by exercising frequently in daily life, because exercise makes energy for people. They will feel hopeful and enjoy their life if they do exercise frequently. Therefore, stress will not affect their life. They can forget stress and enjoy themselves when they do exercise.

Second, people should identify stress. They should recognize what stress is. Stress makes different feelings for people so they should be alert to these symptoms. When people find their stress in the first time, they can fight stress quickly.

Third, people should accept stress in their life. People sometimes can not cope with stress well because it is hard for they to accept stress. For example, one family member died in an accident. People will feel shock and they do not know how to accept the truth. They can accept the bad truth by talking with friends or do exercise. If they do not accept any bed thing, they will become sick and tend to suicide.

Therefore, people should train themselves to accept these kinds of things happening.

In conclusion, people should deal with stress by themselves. They should make a plan for exercise, identify stress, and accept stress. They should be aware of stress in their life and know stress affects them a lot. They must believe that they can cope with stress well.

Michael Jackson, not a black or white story (updated)

In McNamara’s article, ’’ Michael Jackson, not a black or white story’’, the auther discusses how Michael Jackson’s personality left a deep impression on people. Many media report Michael Jackson’s death and many criticisms of him have polar ideas. First, some parts of people’s concern are with Michael Jackson’s abnormal things. For example, he is a pedophilic person and spends vast amounts of money without thinking. These abnormal things will always remain in some parts of people’s mind even a few years after. Second, the other parts that people are hard for to remember are shameful things that he did because he was an international super idol. However, they do not care about his bad hobbies and abuses and continue extolling him. Third, his death involves many problems. His passing is not only due to health problems but also increased extra problems and secrets that no one has been aware of awareness. After Michael Jackson’s death, media will expose all of things that are related to him.
